Introduction to civil preparedness

Defense Civil Preparedness Agency
*Abstract*
This booklet is designed to introduce the local director to civil preparedness-which includes civil defense and disaster preparedness. It was written with help from a special task force of State and local Civil Defense directors. We hope it will help you develop your emergency preparedness knowledge and increase your ability to help your community cope with serious hazards and disasters, including possible nuclear attack. You will do well to take full advantage of the technical guidance, financial assistance, and other aids described here. And you will find it useful to consult our Publications Catalog (MP-20) for more information. Effective use of these resources, however, requires basic knowledge of civil preparedness. Useful orientation may be obtained from the “Civil Defense Director/Coordinator” course now available in home study form.
