Well they finally did it, it's now officially against the law to send cigarettes or tobacco through the mail, under any circumstances. This was quietly signed into law by our fearless leader (who can afford to buy smokes at full price) on March 31, 2010. According to the written law, they weren't going to enforce it for 90 days from that day, I don't want to incriminate myself so I'll not say
  • Fri, 01 Jun 2018 15:15:00 -0600: One More Radiator - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
I had an "encounter" about 3 years ago with an elk cow while driving my truck at about 50mph. Fortunately the damage was not severe and I was able to drive home. It did rearrange some of the front end of my truck, my air conditioner condenser was ruined and it pushed my radiator about 4 inches back toward the engine. My original radiator wasn't damaged to the point where it wouldn't work, PB did
  • Tue, 29 May 2018 01:34:00 -0600: Memorial Day, family and heat! - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
Holy moly it's hot! OK, I really can't complain, much, our summer is honestly pretty mild, and the heat doesn't last that long, about a month to month and a half, then the rainy season hits and just like that, summer is over. And it's "dry" heat, being in the desert, there isn't much humidity which makes the heat we get much more bearable... And the fact that it almost always cools off at night
  • Thu, 24 May 2018 20:47:00 -0600: I'm back! - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
It's been a rrrreeeaaaalllllllllyyyyy long time since I've posted here, no excuses, but I will tell you what I have been up to... I'm still living off grid, and life is still good! PB is expanding our living space, finishing the lower parts of the SkyCastle, this space is partially underground so it stays cool in summer and warm in winter. Concrete is the building material of choice, it doesn't

Hey y'all! I joined a group the beginning of January, the site is http://cre8365.com/, the purpose is to create something, anything everyday, or nearly everyday and post it there, it's art/drawing/painting related and such, but anything creative is allowed, it can even be something you cook, write or make. I have been having such a good time with this, I am a creative person, but like many other
  • Sat, 10 Jan 2015 00:42:00 -0700: Here I am.... - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
Hmmm, I really thought I'd written something here since October, but apparently I haven't, shame on me 🙂 So here I am, back again, let me tell you what has been going on since Oct., that job I was working and LOVED, well it has fizzled, turns out there isn't enough work for 2 people in this area, although the 2 of us seemed to be doing just fine, apparently the boss' boss doesn't agree. I am
  • Sat, 11 Oct 2014 23:34:00 -0600: Updates and random pictures... - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
This week has been a very light week, my work partner and I got all of our work done on Monday, for the entire week! So this week has been almost a vacation... A couple of weeks ago, PB's brother and friend came in for a visit, a bit of a surprise visit, that's fine though, they are fairly low maintenance guests and they helped PB around the sky castle, they even got in on some bridge building.
  • Tue, 16 Sep 2014 23:43:00 -0600: Updates on life.... - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
Well, here I sit, trying to put on my best sad face because I haven't been here in a while, but I'm in such a good mood that my sad face just will not appear 🙂 A volcanic plug just around the corner from us 🙂 It's the tail end of our rainy season, and this year we actually HAD a rainy season, in fact there were times it was a bit much, not that I am complaining though, we NEEDED it and it
  • Sat, 28 Jun 2014 01:22:00 -0600: Water, water, beautiful water! - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
As of tonight, technically last night as this is now the morning, I finally have running water again. PB had been wanting to move the small tank (300 gallons) from the porch just outside of the kitchen to the ground, either under the skycastle or under the porch. So earlier this week he drained the remaining water out of the tank, removed the various hoses and the pump and moved it. It is in a
  • Tue, 10 Jun 2014 09:07:00 -0600: It finally happened, I've been called sexist..... 🙂 - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
I wondered when it would happen, and quite frankly I'm surprised it's taken this long to occur.... on the other off grid site where I write, I was accused to being sexist because of something I wrote, sigh..... Rather than copy and paste the comment, I did a screen cap of it, here it is As moderator of this site, one of my duties is to moderate comments, I get to decide if a comment gets
  • Fri, 30 May 2014 17:26:00 -0600: Fridge and Batts... It's a Done Deal - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
We finally got our batteries and fridge straightened out... For the batteries, we went with real golf cart batteries this time, got them from Sam's Club, these are Energizer CG2, they are 6 volt batteries so I bought 4 of them, had to hook up 2 pair to make 12 volts, each battery is 220 amp hours, so now we have 440 amp hours to use. They are deep cycle batteries, true deep cycle, not hybrids
  • Fri, 25 Apr 2014 12:32:00 -0600: I'm baaaaack, again 🙂 - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
Well, again it's been a while since I've been here, sorry and thanks to all those who check back in from time to time to see if I have really forgotten this site. 🙂 Much has happened since my last update, I mentioned before about our community's churches taking turns hosting the Christmas and Easter programs, Christmas was at the other church, this year Easter was hosted at our church, I was
  • Wed, 25 Dec 2013 15:38:00 -0700: Merry Christmas! - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
Surprise! I'm still alive and well, it has been far too long since my last post, life has been good to me and is being good to me, been really busy. 🙂 Let's see, to update everyone as to what has been going on since I last posted, which was about my latest MP3 player, the verdict is in, I love it, I do wish the text on the screen could be enlarged, but I've used it long enough now to have the
  • Tue, 11 Jun 2013 11:37:00 -0600: Quickie Update on the MP3 Player - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
A quickie note about my new mp3 player, I'm still getting used to it, the physical size of the unit is great, the storage size is good for me, the interface is taking some getting used to, it's not as intuitive as I think it should be, either that or I'm just used to my old Coby... the text on the screen is tiny, I can barely read it without glasses, a bit of a problem when I listen to it at
  • Thu, 06 Jun 2013 23:03:00 -0600: Replacing Failing Equipment - Wretha's Adventures Living Off Grid
My MP3 player started going out on me the other night, not on dates, it was about to fail... I seem to go through one about every 1.5 to 2 years. I can hear at least one person groaning about me living off grid with all these gadgets... yup I do live off grid and yup, I do like my gadgets. I have given up quite a lot of modern conveniences, such as TV, landline phones, cell phones, smart phones,
