Had an interesting afternoon and evening at the college…
First, got a free meal ( with 50 other students ) in the food court, courtesy of the student senate…ya see, this week is “spirit week”, with the soccer team having their “homecoming” game this saturday. The meal tonight was supposed to be “Free BBQ”, but someone forgot to tell the food court manager to order BBQ, so it was burgers, meatloaf, and burrito style wraps for all! Still, it was awful darn nice of them.
Unbenownst to all of us enjoying our fabulous gourmet meals, the expected thunderstorms of the day was producing a small tornado south of town, between our tiny town of Riverton, Wyoming, and Lander, 24 miles away. No damage…simply crossing open farmland, but unexpected way up this way.
After dinner, my Flash class was enjoyable, until I got selected to research and give demos of *all* the various audio editing tools for creating, modifying, optimizing, and playing “audio that can be imported into Flash”.
Boy, that is a mouthful of stuff to try to cover in the alotted 10 to 15 minutes I have to do it in…so I’ll be a little EXTRA busy this weekend.
Finally, in trying to help my fellow students, many of whom do not understand even rudimentary pc security, I created a page this week that to get them, the faculty, and many of my online friends, better prepared for saving their ‘puters from the evil that idiots with keyboards will do.
Check out the computer survival page, and grab all the REST of the tools that you don’t already have.
Well, back to work…

I i have a question, is it legal to pay a truck driver that is paid in hourly wages only a strait wage of hours and never get paid for the overtime of the week? I happen to be that driver, I have tolerated this type of work for about the last three and one-half years. I havent said anything about it since I’m trying to support my family without losing my job. But, looking into it, if I did recieve all the over-time that I worked for, I would maybe have an extra 40-45,000 dollars. The thing that gets to me is that when I recieve my paycheck, on the top of the check it says “commision” rather than hours of labor. The interesting part about it is that I turn in a work duty sheet that has hourly wages written on it and they send me a check that says commision.
Iam a good law abiding citizen and I do believe in the rights of all workers, but if I am getting used by working 60- 75 hours a week I would like to know if I can or will ever be re-imbursed of all the overtime I have worked for, rather than my employer pocketing all the money I have willingly produced to support the company of LaBarge Trucking, LaBarge,Wy. All of the other drivers are paid by 24.5% of the load that they haul, which makes sense in the truck driving worldof driving a 9-13 hour day. But being paid hourly to gain more for my employer rather than me does not make sense.
Tim,
Sorry for your problems. It seems that your company is screwing you in how they pay you, and it sounds like what they are doing is illegal. What I would do if I were you is visit your local employment center, and explain to them as you’ve explained here. They would know the law on labor, pay, and hours much more than I would.
You might also started putting feelers out to change employment to a company who pays you honestly, instead of trying to cheat you, AND the federal government, of income and other taxes.
Good luck…
Rich
