In the last two days, there have been one successful terror attempt (no deaths) at the Scotland Airport, two vehicles rigged to explode in London (both found and defused before any casualties), and great concern for those kinds of things happening in the US.
According to Michael Chertoff, the Director of US Department of Homeland Security, there is no valid information suggesting that there might be similar attempts of the same kind. His comments as of this morning are:
At this point, I have seen no specific, credible information suggesting that this latest incident is connected to a threat to the homeland. We have no plans at this time to change the national threat level, although we remind everyone that the aviation threat level has been raised to orange since last fall.
The Glasgow incident (eyewitness video) was witnessed by many, and involved at least two individuals who dorve the blazing Jeep Cherokee vehicle into the departures section of the main terminal of the airport Saturday afternoon.
In the Friday incidents, two different vehicles parked near nightclubs (actually only a few hundred yards away) were rigged to explode, yet failed to go off. Had they been rigged to create a secondary attack, where first one bomb goes off, and when the area is swarming with first responders and onlookers, then a second device explodes killing even more? I’ve yet to see this suggested in media, but it makes sense. With this in mind, it does seem to have all the earmarks of Al Queda connections.
According to Foxnews,
it emerged that a 53-page document alerting businesses to the threat posed by VBIEDs — vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices — had been issued to police two weeks ago. It had been passed on to the Tiger Tiger club only a few days before yesterday’s events.
The incident also appeared to be foreshadowed by a posting on an Internet forum used by terrorists, saying: “Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah. London will be bombed.”
Because of these events, the UK has raised their alert level to its highest rating of Critical Threat, which means “an attack is expected imminently”. Over half a million closed circuit cameras cover London, one of the most surveillance capable cities in the world. Given this fact, it should come out sometime in the next few weeks that video of the culprits has been found, leading to quite a bit of action in tracking them down.
Until then, all of us should remain vigilant in the US for similar activities, especially given this weekend of Independance Day celebration.
Be careful out there.

EDIT UPDATE ONE: I did receive a reference from at least one source that the multiple vehicles COULD have been intended for a layered, delayed, secondary attack.
EDIT UPDATE TWO: The complete story from the Daily Mail can be found at the Daily Mail website. It has on the seen photos of the terrorist actually on the seen and being doused with water by responders.
Time for a Friday Funny…(yes, it’s a new theme for me)…enjoy!

Shane Connor of Ki4u.com, Nukalert fame, and other great prep sites asked me to convert this video into an online presentation.
In this video, Steve Jones of Physicians for Civil Defense, interviews Kirk Paradise, of Huntsville, Alabama Emergency Management and Madison County EMA. A very good discussion of what the recent history of the national fallout shelter program looked like, what was accomplished, and who was mostly responsible for the fallout shelter program in the United States falling apart because of decisions at the highest levels of government to not shelter our population.
This video goes into detail of what a city or county can do with data left over from the federal studies, and create a workable shelter plan for most of it’s population, before fallout shelter is needed. In the case of Huntsville, they are downwind from a nuclear power plant, and if the plant were to be attacked by terrorists, a fallout situation would be a very real issue.
Unfortunately, this 24 minute video had to be cut into three pieces, due to YouTube’s 10 minute video time limit. No problem. Below are all three videos in the proper order…Enjoy!

This video report was placed on YouTube by CBS today. It’s an interview of FBI Director Robert Mueller by Bob Orr of CBS news, about the growing threat of a nuclear attack against the U.S. and what authorities must do to prevent it. (CBSNews.com)

It’s been noted by several folks that Mueller appears VERY nervous about this story.
This news story shouldn’t come as any surprise to Americans. After all, for years now (since 9/11) how many times has some talking head for the Bush administration used the phrase, “It’s now if…but when…”, with regards to future attacks on US soil and/or US interests abroad.
This speech was given this morning by Robert S. Mueller, Director of the FBI, who spoke this morning at the Global Initiative Nuclear Terrorism Conference in Miami. His comments confirm claims made in a new book “The Day of Islam” detailing al-Qaida’s nuclear plans.
I fear that Mueller’s words are right. It is just a matter of time before the US sees a nuclear detonation, or use of a dirty bomb, on our soil…and that the death toll could make the carnage of 9/11 look like child’s play. What better reason to at least try to understand what a fallout shelter is, how to build an expedient shelter, and how long to stay in one…should you be downwind…
Here’s a portion of the speech. Follow the link below to read the entire story.
Fair Use Applies…
Good morning. It is an honor to be here with all of you today.
My thanks to Governor Crist and Mayor Diaz for joining us this morning, and to all those who organized this conference.
I also want to welcome Assistant Secretary John Rood and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak from the Kazakhstan conference. We appreciate your joining us, especially given the time difference.
We are here to discuss one of the most dangerous and deadly threats we face: nuclear terrorism. Few threats fall into the same class in terms of sheer devastation, damage, and loss. Few strike such fear in the hearts of the public. And few threats are so appealing to terrorists around the world, for the same reasons.
It has been said that the September 11th attacks were a “failure of imagination.” We cannot fail to imagine the consequences of a nuclear terrorist attack. Nor can we fail to imagine that there are those for whom such an event is the end game.
Prevention must be our end game. Should there be a nuclear attack anywhere in the world, it would mean in some sense that we have failed in our mission. That is why we are here this week.
This morning, I want to talk about the threat of nuclear terrorism. I want to touch on our collective efforts in the United States to keep our citizens safe. And I want to discuss what we in the international community must do to contain this threat.
