| Wanna Volunteer Some of Your Time?
By Richard A. Fleetwood - March 2001
VOLUNTEERS APPLY HERE...
As you may know by now, SurvivalRing is growing with every passing week,
becoming a big project, bristling with all kinds of new features, and new
sites joining every week. With the number of member sites approaching a total
of 700 members, we are in need of a few GOOD people who believe in the goal
of HELPING OTHERS, who know a good project with a good goal when they see
it, and who have a bit of spare time to help in any way they can.
We specifically need VOLUNTEERS who will take the time, preferably a couple
of hours a month, though any time given will be appreciated, to do some traveling
on the SurvivalRing, looking for RING PROBLEMS.
What are RING PROBLEMS? Well, very basically, things that would cause a visitor
traveling around the ring to come up to a DEAD LINK, or MISSING SurvivalRing
LINKS on the site.
What you would look for on a site, if you choose to accept this mission (as
the theme music to Mission: Impossible begins in the background)...
a) Missing Sites: Sites that "were" in the ring, who are now MISSING, as
in gone from the internet.
b) Correct Content: See our TOPICS page to see what we WANT to be on a members
page, and what we DON'T. We do have some standards, and we wish to keep them
at a level that ANY family member can enjoy and learn from.
c) Missing WEBRING Links: EVERY member site, to become part of the ring,
MUST have the SurvivalRing webring HTML on their page. It can be on the site
HOMEPAGE, the site LINKS page, or even a WEBRINGs page for the site, where
the site is a member of several rings, and has all the webring links for
all rings on one page. It MUST be obvious to the new visitor where the visitor
can go to find the WEBRING links to continue on the SurvivalRing. Some sites
will remove the code and NOT notify the ringmaster they have done so, so
this is an area I could REALLY use help with.
d) Contact the RINGMASTER with details after finding problems. Site url,
id, and any other info you can find is appreciated. Check the SURVIVALRING
MEMBERS page or hit the LIST button link on the SurvivalRing homepage to
get a list of sites IN RING ORDER, to help you track down MISSING sites and
their information.
Report PROBLEMS to:
Problems@survivalring.org
All volunteers will be listed on the SurvivalRing YOUR HOSTS page as RING
LEADERS...those who volunteer freely to help others.
Sign up for the SurvivalRing Volunteers Mailing list below to stay up to
date on what's going on with the ring, areas we could use help in, and highlights
of work being done. Helpful FAQ's will be posted here when ready, and will
also be available in the List Archive.
We thank you for your help and assistance in keeping SurvivalRing running
as smoothly as possible, and we ask that you help anyone else you would do
the same.
