Supporting SurvivalRing
By Richard A. Fleetwood - May 2001
Please Help Support SurvivalRing
SurvivalRing is growing each and every day and requires constant attention
to keep it going in the right direction. I have received literally thousands
of emails from people all over the world letting me know how useful and timely
it is, and thanking me for my time I put into it.
I do appreciate the fact that folks know that it does take time to keep this
beast I've created on the right path, and it helps to get over some of the
rough spots, like all-nite editing, or hours working on graphics, or researching
specific topics on AND offline to put to use on the website. There have been
many nites of two or three hours of sleep between shutting down the keyboard,
and getting back up to go spend the day delivering mail again in a very intensely
physical job. Of course, I've done my job quickly and efficiently as I have
much excitement in BOTH areas....my career and my "calling" as a webmaster
of this site. You can correctly assume that I have a very Type-A personality.
My drive, and my strength, both come from wanting to help as many people
in this lifetime as I can, to have better, safer, and longer, more enjoyable
lives, by being aware of anything that might shorten any aspect of it.
It has been a real eye-opener thus far down this road, and I expect it to
get MUCH more interesting as THIS year of 1999 progresses, and we approach
the mighty unknown of dealing with the REAL disruptions that Y2k will have
in store for SOME of us. Yes, it will impact some of us...and pretty badly,
too. Others will fair better...and unfortunately some may suffer greatly.
No one, not now, can tell you EXACTLY what will happen. Many await the inevitable
failure in some area, and plan on fixing THE problem, as it appears in whatever
area of their life it shows up. I pray for all our sakes that the problems
for us are as minimal as possible.
NOW..about supporting this project...
There are several areas that are open to any and all who want to support
what I am doing, and who think it is a very good way of providing information
to the world.
They are ...
-
Buying books, videos, music, and such thru our
Amazon.com
affiliated site. The search link is now on ALL SurvivalRing pages, to
make it easy for you to jump right on over there and find, order, and purchase
that item you really need to get that job done.
-
Using our BANNER space now on our pages to advertise
YOUR products or business. I offer discounts in several areas, and promise
you that people LOOKING for preparedness information ARE coming to SurvivalRing
in larger and larger numbers everyday. I am taking every opportunity to get
the word out in print, talk radio, and in person to as many people as possible.
-
Joining the SurvivalRing with your SITE, if you haven't already. There is
a plethora of areas that SurvivalRing covers in regards to member sites.
From food to water, from wilderness to the city, from health to wellness,
from the past to the future....ANY aspect of preparedness, be it mind, body,
spirit, or more, is worth being covered when it comes to education and teaching
ourselves all we can in this world.
-
Signing up to one or all of our topica mailing lists.
I have 8 different ones that cover a variety of preparedness issues, and
anyone is welcome to join ANY one.
-
Joining the NEW SurvivalRing Association, a YAHOO Club, with Chat, Message
base, photo albums, contact info, and more. A very interesting and growing
area of our interactive project.
-
TELLING OTHERS about the SurvivalRing. The more people that know about this
webring, the more people we can interconnect with and help one another prepare
for all the world has for us. Use the local media, email, phone calls,
handwritten letters....any way to spread the word.
-
SHARING Your time and skills. SurvivalRing is becoming a BIG project. Currently
I have four other people helping me in various areas of the ring (Randy,
Jodi, Diane and John). I would like to get some
volunteers who would like to help the
webring grow with time and energy. The work is easy, the pay is nada, but
the spiritual gift you will get by offering your help will be felt by more
people then you will ever know.
-
DONATIONS of material or funds will go a LONG way
in helping the whole project grow. I am always looking for great, useful
items such as books, computer hardware, ANY preparedness material (FEMA,
Civil Defense, weather phenomena, etc.), and even cash donations to offset
the cost this website requires (ISP, webspace, domain names, upgrades, etc.).
-
Hopefully some mix of all the items above will allow us to break even some
day on a monthly basis, but we're two years into it with little to show for
it, other then a wealth of friends and hundreds of contacts across the globe.
It truly is a labor of love. But any help of acknowledgement is appreciated.
Will YOU be the one that Helps?
No one knows when they might be called upon to help. It might be an emergency,
or an accident, or just a request for a helping hand lifting a package or
carrying some groceries. Small tokens of help have had great impact thruout
the world. Fortunes have been won, or lost, and nations raised, or broken,
by the decisions of single individuals all thruout history. There have been
times in my life that my decisions have been great turning points for me
or my family. Some have been good, and some not. All have brought me to this
point, and made me what I am today. These paths I've traveled have been an
education with every step, bringing new opportunities, or sometimes terror
to my life. I've fallen in holes, tripped on my shoelaces, or been blinded
by lowest branches of the tree of life, that hid the greater treasure down
the missed path.
Looking back I can see my mistakes. Looking ahead, I can foresee troubling
areas, and work to avoid them, or mitigate the effects as much as I can.
I can and will do the best that I can at every opportunity. I know that many
eyes are on me, some near, and most far away...watching...always watching.
I will always look for companions to share the path with. My family has been
with me thru all these trevails, and will be with me forever. But, as the
saying goes, the more the merrier. A load that is shared is lighter for everyone
involved. A shoulder offered, a tear wiped away, or a simple pat on the back
can mean all the difference in the world to someone who truly needs it. I
will always do my best to fulfill these needs and others when the chance
arises.
I also hope that there are many more like me. I have met so many people in
the past few years, both online and off, that have shown these traits and
so much more, that I can't help but know that there is a higher power keeping
us all aware with that still, small voice. Do you ever hear it? Do you stop
and listen sometimes, hearing what you want to hear...or more often, need
to hear?
My life is full, even overflowing at times. I don't take the opportunity
as much as I should to quiet down and listen at some point each day to that
almost inaudible voice. But then, there are times when it screams at me.
Not often, but when it does, do I ever get a move on.
My point? Make a difference. BE the difference. Go farther than you think
you can. Help a stranger out, JUST because its the right thing to do. Be
a scout and do a good deed several times a day. No one HAS to know but you.
That in and of itself will be your reward. Remember ... those eyes that watch
me from near and far might be watching you as well. Everyone will remember
the bad times, but few will remember the good ones. Except you.
