Please take a moment
to think about the late President, who is and was the leading force in bringing
the Cold War to close, tearing down the Berlin Wall, and rebuilding a greatly
deteriorated U.S. military into the leading power on the planet. He was
a great man, and deserves to be remembered as one of the most powerful men in
American history. God rest his soul.
War
Well, we won....I think. Saddam still alive, captured, and sitting in
a cell somewhere in Iraq, under U.S. guard. Bush on the TV in weeks past, apologizing
to the Iraqian people (and the rest of the world), for the abuse of Iraqi POWs,
in the prison now controlled by the U.S. Army, that USED to be Saddam's main
"Palace O'Torture".
Rumsfield
is being held accountable for this faux paux, in which hundreds of photos hit
the media, directly from sources within the prison, that were not seen, much
less censored, by the folks in power there. Heads will roll ( figuratively,
not literally...we DID free Iraq from tyranny, after all!), and military careers
will end. Out of 25 deaths that have occured within detainee ranks, only 2 have
been proven to by homicides, while 10 of those are still being reviewed. I have
heard media wonks, nearly all liberal, comparing this abusive episode of detainees,
to genocide such as Hitler was famous for.
I
totally agree that this abuse of detainees at the hands of Americans, without
good cause, and against Geneva conventions, is just plain wrong, and will have
extreme long term consequences in the eyes of the rest of the world, but everyone
should remember...we freed this ENTIRE nation of Iraq, from the terror Saddam
wrought on his OWN people, wherein he was responsible for killing MILLIONS of
his fellow countrymen, while in comparison, we ARE at war still, on the forces
still hiding and attacking Allies throughout this nation, where 780 plus of
OUR countrymen have given their lives in the name of freedom for ALL. The few
bad eggs ( a few dozen soldiers) that actually committed the abuse, out of tens
of thousands of Americans over on Iraq soil, will be held responsible, and America
will again be known for truth, honor, AND justice above all.
This
is a case of the few affecting the many, and the political fallout will occur
for years to come..and fearfully, this episode just may lose the Whitehouse
for the GOP.
The
replacement government of Iraq is slowly taking effect, and lots of state treasures
thought to be lost forever are reappearing out of safe storage back into the
museums. Our guys are helping the new Iraqi "regime" set up a new Civil
Defense Force, for them to protect their own streets, instead of our tanks and
manpower and tax dollars...ok, well the first two at least.
The beheading of Nick Berg,
claimed to be by the terrorist Al Zarqawi, hit the web, and the media, like
a lightning bolt from hell. Our Intel people in the CIA said they verified it
was the work of the man claiming he was who he said he was, but conspiracy theorists
all over the net claim the edit job of the video says it was fake, or that the
men in the masks were our own special forces, or
some other kind of "unverifiable" sources know it's not what it seems
to be. I think the mere fact it could be as it claims, especially
after the murder of journalist Danial Pearl on video, should be making all of
us think just how evil these terrorists are.
At some point, these terrorist
atrocities, and that is what they are, will come to American soil...again. We
must all come to terms with that, and understand that every terrorist MUST be
dealt with with extreme prejudice, or else it will be OUR friends, OUR families,
and maybe even OURSELVES being on the wrong end of the terrorist knife, bullet,
bomb, or plane.
Are you going to wait until
they're right outside your door, before you give total support to our government
to "do what it takes", to remove the threat BEFORE it comes home?
Or are you going to support our administration, in their goal of going to the
ends of the earth to remove these scum from the genetic pool?
I say, kill all the terrorists
we find, and let God sort'em out.

Domestic Threats
Latest Terrorist Alert...
Ashcroft, that buddy of "Dubya", says we're
gonna get it again. "We don't know where, we don't know when...we just know," is the basic jist of his recent messages.
The "Chatter" Factor
Fear is still high that more attacks on U.S.
soil will be occuring in the future. Untold billions of dollars have been spent
by the Feds throught the Department of Homeland Security, a lot of which has
dribbled down through state and county levels, to the front line guys and gals
here at home...with small amounts of new gear, new tools, and new communications
equipment...to basically help them "respond", instead of "stop",
future terror attacks.
Chemical...biological...and even radiological
events will come to us, on U.S. soil, against American Citizens in their home
towns. My research points to the fact that those highest up in the government...those
responsible for keeping us safe...feel another...no, more...attacks against
us are inevitable.
Therefore, I must use every waking moment, spare
minute, and every opporunity I can create, to get as much preparedness material,
on ALL the above threats, into the hands of as many fellow Americans as I can.
There is much more on this coming up below, so keep this in mind.
Your help in making it happen, it getting this
info to the rest of the nation, our neighbors, our friends, our leaders who
have forgotten what we already have IN HAND, is IMPERATIVE! Whether it's word
of mouth, email links, sharing digital files, emailing friends links to all
the manuals in hand, or donating funds to BUY MORE DOCUMENTS...every single
bit helps.
On Wednesday, April 14th of this year, I placed
directly into the hands of United States Senator Craig Thomas (R-Wyoming) a
copy of my Ultimate Civil Defense Collection CD Rom, at the end of his speaking
engagement here at Central Wyoming College sponsored by the CWC Republican Club
which I am an office in, here in Riverton, Wyoming. I told him that the preparedness
and survival data contained on the disk covered 60 years of U.S. preparedness,
and that every bit of it was CREATED by the government for the people of this
nation to be able to survive anything.
I told him that the fallout shelter information
alone on the CD, was more than ANY U.S. government website in the entire world
had online, and that with the threats of terrorist nukes and dirty bombs being
mentioned and feared by all areas of government now and again in all news venues,
that NOW was the time to get this information out to the public AGAIN. I put
within the CD jewel case my business card with my full address, phone numbers,
email, and web site address, so his office would be able to contact me again.
His congressional assistant also took a copy, and she said they WOULD get back
with me, that it sounded like a very useful project.
It's been almost two months, and no response.
Guess you could say, I expected this to happen. NO problem, only 99 more senators
to go, and 435 house members, and then the entire executive branch. Sure could
use some help preparing a mass mailing for all these government leaders...any
body wanna help?

Weather
Since the last (sorry, the FIRST) issue of the SurvivalRing Ezine came out in
March 2003, there was a MASSIVE tornadic outbreak across the southwest USA,
of over 500 tornadoes, in May 2003 ALONE. Not as many deaths as there COULD
have been, yet more tornadoes in 2003 then ANY year since. Surprisingly,
or maybe because of these trends, my report on the April
8th, 1998 F5 Tornado in Jefferson County, Birmingham, Alabama, that
narrowly missed my home, but took out 1500 others, killing 31 folks, and injuring
hundreds more, has been getting massive hits from visitors around the world.
Last month, May 2004, we had another SERIOUS
tornado event in the U.S., just as bad as last year. We had one day that set
a record for the most tornadoes in single YEAR, with over 100, in the U.S. Hopefully,
your family stayed safe and sound through most of these storms. But, tornado
season will continue thru the rest of the year, AND to top it off, the 2004 "Hurricane Season" started June 1st.
If you live near the southeast coasts, PLEASE
spend the few extra bucks NOW to get preparedness supplies, plywood for the
windows, generators, and bug-out bugs ready, and HAVE A PLACE to GO. You don't
want to get stuck in gridlock with 30,000 other cars, and have to spend five
days in a shut down Stuckey's parking lot, 300 miles from the coast, because
there is no place else to go as a Class 5 storm bears down on your home town.
AGAIN, a reminder to ALL of you that NATURE
kills more humans each year than MAN does. Know what weather events or
natural hazards can happen near you, and when things are in a state of change...don't
be caught short and unprepared.

Local readiness
Before moving here to Riverton, Wyoming, my previous county of Washakie, in
northwest Wyoming, got a lot more emergency management funding early in early
2003, all filtering down from state and federal levels. Many things to
be purchased, such as first responder equipment, air tanks, software, etc, but
the best thing is funding to start a FEMA C.E.R.T program in the county, the
center of the Big Horn Basin.
Went to visit the EMA guru for the county, Chuck
Mischke soon afterwards, and dropped him off a couple of FEMA cdroms, and he
asked if I have seen the paper yet that day...no, I said. The CERT info
was on the front page. I signed up on the spot, having told him to count
me in whenever the funds broke loose. Great training opportunities, real
life preparedness, and the confidence to be SURE how to react for ANYTHING.
Unfortunately, I moved 100 miles south to return
to college, and here in Fremont county, the EMA director of over 20 years, Kim
Lee, just quit to take a state level position, and there is NO CERT program
in place, or even really planned yet that I can find. When the replacement comes
to town, I'll volunteer to help start the local program.
Check with YOUR local county EMA folks to see
if THEY have a CERT program going. If not, get them started on getting
one in work. It would be a wise move for you AND your neighbors to think about
this.

Fears from the net...
Shelter?
The worry about "Where's the fallout shelters?" has disipated quite a bit from
the Pre-Gulf War II jitters. I still get a couple of shelter emails each
week, but nothing like what I was getting in February and March of this year.
Doesn't mean there aren't people still looking...just not as many. My
email weekly total does seem to ebb and flow with the sensitivity and danger
level of current events...go figure!
I just finished the final initial creation of my new subsite, MyFalloutShelter.com.
This is a completely brand new website, that offers HISTORICAL shelter information,
found NO WHERE ELSE on the internet. Check it out when you have a chance. This
project was one of the first to come out of my college courses, and earned me
an "A" for the semester, so let me know what YOU think.
Recently at the radio station where I work as
an on-air overnite DJ, I took a look at the two 3-inch thick "Emergency" binders on top of the main transmitter controller in the control room. These
are the procedures to use in case of local, county, regional, or national emergency.
Contained inside was an amazing assortment of info...all the normal things you'd
expect for a high powered FM or AM station for natural or technological disasters,
including step by step info for where to go, who to see, who to call, the entire
public safety phone tree, what to take, and how to get there, for the worst
of problems.
To my amazement, included within were TWO lists
of shelters for the entire county, one for disaster, AND one for "fallout".
Simply amazing. I did NOT think to find anything like this CURRENTLY in a place
of media, much less with any info past the 1960s. The latest dates on the shelter
info? 1989. The shelter lists were DETAILED even more than I would have thought,
including shelter size, number of spaces, protection factor and more. Finally,
proof in my very own hands that the government has NOT given up completely on
the concept of SHELTERING.
One of MY projects I am currently outlining
right now for this website section that uses a form to : a) let you report
the location of a KNOWN fallout shelter, or b) ask for help in location a shelter
in YOUR county of YOUR state. Sections will be seperated by state, with
both pieces of info on the same page, for THAT state. Have a good chunk
of the programming and graphics ready, but much still to do. Again, just
an idea, but nothing else exists that *I* know of that would cover this major
area of need.
If you've been on the net for more then a few
months, and you're reading this newsletter, you're probably heard "through
the grapevine" we call the internet, about fears that Yellowstone National
Park is on the verge of going "Boom", as only a real super-volcano
can do. We're talking global, civilization destroying, millions die, the sun
disappears for months, nuclear winter, spiky-haired roaming mutants kind-of-boom.
Historically, and verifiable thru online government
websites, the extremely large, many square mile wide Yellowstone caldera blows
up just about every 640,000 years. Depending on who you listen to, it's overdue
to blow up, just about any day now.
Right. I don't think anyone reading this update
lives closer to Yellowstone, than me (unless you live in Cody or Jackson). I
would not have moved my family from the relative safety of North Central Alabama,
home of F5 tornados, hurricanes, floods, roaming street gangs, and so forth,
JUST to live in the shadow of one of the world's most active volcanoes, with
more than 10,000 vents, geysers, and bubbling hot springs, if it were just gonna
move, too, after I get all settled in. No, I am gonna make damn sure it doesn't
blow up, and I give you my word that I won't let it blow up on my watch. And
if it does, I promise to upload digital pictures of the approaching pyroclastic
flow rolling over the bluff that the Riverton Airport sits on right behind my
home, just before the phone lines melt away.
CBS news did a story on "Yellowstone's
Explosive Secret" on March 25th, 2004, here...
USGS researcher Lisa Morgan, who found the "inflated
plane", lying on the bottom of Lake Yellowstone, also known as the massive,
pulsating, "Yellowstone Bulge" by the Doomers of the Net, says in
the article, that the bottom of the lake is the "last unmapped frontier
in Yellowstone...", and that the bulging dome is the size of 7 football
fields. The only other underwater dome in Yellowstone was the site of a major,
extreme event that occurred over 13,800 years ago, and only blew material 5
miles away.

There is a big huh-bub going on, on a slew of
off-the-beaten-path forum boards, brought to my attention by a few close friends
wanting *my* opinion on a possible end of the world event, proposed and promised
by yet another "wanna-be Doomer King of the World Doofus", some one
going by the handle, Aussie Bloke, who claims to be a world famous scientist
astronomer from "Down Under".
Short version of the story...three incoming
rocks...huge dust cloud hiding them..coming from the direction of the south
pole...three seperate hits...all this month, including one next week. It's all
a "big secret", and the government is hiding the threat, since there
is nothing they can do to save the world, or save themselves.
Here's the big long story from beginning to end, and guess who got to post the REAL info from the news about the REAL scientist whose identity was tainted by this not very well thought out plan.
Visualize this...the President on every TV screen
in the world, to announce this threat.
"Hi, this is President Kerry. We're all
gonna die. You're on your own. Have a pleasant evening. Goodnite."
Apparently, of all the sites and messages I
reviewed regarding this specific topic, only FreeRepublic.com seemed to consist
mostly of level headed folks, with the exception of one selling "Titanium
Wile E. Coyote Protection Devices", (read 'miniature clown umbrellas'),
to protect one's noggin from cranium damage and misplaced hair from said falling
rocks.
I added a few comments about this moron's scientific
methods and thinking, and threw a link up to download HS4 off the website, and
gave the FEMA phone number to get a copy of ECONOMIC RECOVERY FROM SOCIETAL
CATACLYSM. I also tried to start a thread about just what would you do if there
WAS a very large asteroid headed torwards YOUR hometown, with real suggestions
about what to do. No real comments from the forum on that idea.
So, I checked a couple of sites, and just in
case YOU find a "Giant Flaming Ball O'Death" threatening to part YOUR
hair, one warm and breezy Saturday evening, you can learn MORE about just what
kind of real effects could come to your HALF of the country should a 1400 meter
wide bowling ball drop into your neighborhood, without so much as an RSVP.

And read the numbers generated using one of
the worlds faster computer called the teraflops, to see the REAL physics that
a 1.4 kilometer boulder create in pulling a smackdown on the east coast. Think
500 cubic kilometers of ocean water instantly vaporized..think impact energy
of 300 gigatons of TNT released...think 10 times all the explosive power of
the every nuclear weapon on the planet created since 1960, all going off at
once. THAT is a big boom.
And, while we're at it, here's real more real science about giant impacts from space in Canada.
Needless to say, using real physics in the math
and output generated by teraflops, most of the upper east coast, as far inland
as the Great Lakes, would see a shower of molten magma coming in and cooking
a few tens of millions of gooses in the area, including you. Do some google
searches for comet + strike + earth and you'll bring up a lot
of science, some prophecy, a bit of Nostradamus, some doomer sights, a little
native American insight, and all kinds delightfully salacious info about what
might be tomorrow, or in another 65 million years.

Homeland Security Grant, to produce a new CD Rom, combining both his and my

The grant has been applied for to fund the creation
of 50 to 100,000 copies of the CD, purchase mailing lists, pay for postage and
marketing items, and get the CD into every public library in the United States,
as well as to every media outlet in the largest cities in every state...so that
A) we will get life saving info into the folks that can get it to EVERYONE in
those areas, should the need arise, and B) get the media to start thinking of
the bigger picture...that of helping people understand that every single person
who knows a little something about preparedness and reaction to disaster, will
be the ones who help the next time disaster visits THAT town.
We will know something this summer, about our
receiving the grant or not...and if we don't get it, we are going to create
our very own network of volunteers to help collect media and library addresses,
and mail them ourselves. This is a BIG thing. It is something no one has attempted
to do, to cover the nation with REAL honest-to-God government produced survival
and preparedness info, BACK into the hands of the people of this nation. You
really want to make a difference in helping your fellow man? Do you think that
a small band of deeply concerned folks, who have an idea, and a message, and
the tools to do it, and a little time...can change the way society thinks about
preparedness?
I do...I have...and I am. I have had dozens
of you help with all kinds of things in building up all areas of the SurvivalRing
web site over the years, with ideas, documents, suggestions, input, and even
funding. We are making a difference, with thousands of new faces every month.
We are taken seriously by the GOVERNMENT, of all things, as a source of rare,
but correct and useful again info. We are linked to DIRECTLY from FEMA, some
departments of the Army, several Emergency Management agencies across the country,
and much, much more. I am sure that the feedback I've heard from many folks
in the intell community about me being a resource for more than I even know,
can't be too far from the truth.
Each and every one of you reading this can take
part in this project, in many ways big and small. We ARE going to change the
world, and we have the potential to save the lives of millions over the course
of human history in the next 10, 20, 50, or 100 years. And yes, I truly believe
that with every fiber of my being...which is why I've putting the rest of my
life into making it happen...step by step, piece by piece, bit by bit. Come
on...help us out...find SOME way to put some of your effort into taking this
project forward, this "dream" of getting the entire nation aware of
mountain of documents, proof, and data that they can easily prepare for literally
anything, and that EVERY family has a future, no matter how dark the current
situation might seem, in the midst of disaster.

The Website
Cool new features...including
the weather...
SurvivalRing Status
I got most of the SurvivalRing website back together, PLUS a couple hundred
megabytes MORE uploaded to the website, after our hack attack the first part
of March of last year, where everything except for a couple of sub directories
were deleted. I do have about 200 bad links to fix to some pages and several
file downloads, and a complete reinstall of the download linking software. I
am still getting tons of completed downloads of the files ( so sayeth my website
visitor logs ) so things are mostly working...just not completely. Have
software that goes out to my website(s) and does a complete site check, but
the report it generates, when printed into a PDF file, is over 600 pages, so
it WILL take a bit of time to get everything corrected. After errors are
fixed, then the NEW files, already uploaded, will be linked to accordingly,
and YOU guys can get to them. I promise...you will find much to rejoice
over.
Big news here is that I just re-upped the website
host for the next twelve months, and at the same time upgraded the hosting package
to...
ONE GIGABYTE of storage space, and 50 GIGABYTES
of bandwidth per month. is is a 25% increase in storage space and allowed
bandwidth. Don't think well have any hosting limit issues for a while,
and gives me 400 megs more of space to upload new files to.
Granted, 1 gig of space is not much compared
to the BAX'S FTP download website of over 14 gigs of various survival ebooks,
including most of mine, as a secondary download center. But until I can
afford to run a fractional T-1 internet connection into my home and run the
website directly off one of my computers instead of a remote host, it will do
for now.
With this little message update, I have also
added TWO entirely new sections to the SurvivalRing World. The SurvivalRing
News Bureau has a BIG stack of news feeds on preparedness related news headlines.
Visit it at SurvivalRing News Bureau. And, after years of "wanting to", I finally have created my own little corner
of "webmaster newbie heaven" in my SurvivalRing
Webmaster Tools section. If you EVER wanted to have a website, but didn't

Storage Calculatorthat I rewrote and played with for quite a while,
and now YOU can use it by clicking the link above.

Server Snickers
My host finally got a couple of bugs ironed out on their server farm, and my
account now has the full 1000 megabytes of storage, and 50 gigabytes of bandwidth
available for all. Running about 88% full on storage right now, which
means THERE IS A LOT OF FILES to get linked to. No major burps, file deletions,
or problems the past couple of months, so that makes me somewhat happy. LOTS and LOTS of hard drive space, and the ability to download new files as
I get them relinked and new ones uploaded.

Laptop issues
Thanks to some WONDERFUL supporters of SurvivalRing,
the LAPTOP known as "Bubba" was revived and brought back to life!! I was
able to raise over $400 in a one month period late last spring, and was able
to get him resurrected. He is NOW fully functional, after a brain transplant,
and can be removed from life support (the AC power cord ) once again. I
have been using him hours a day to get some site development done, some graphics
design, and some OFFLINE updating done (resume, job searches, etc.). He is as
good as new, and a lot less cranky and frustrating. Thanks again to ALL
who showed their support in this moment of crisis. Special thanks to my
son Ken for letting me use his PC for keeping my mail caught up, and to Don
for his hardware support and assistance with a loaner. You guys and gals
are the best.

that I installed for tracking the downloads, and keeping LEECHER abuse down,
had a technical glitch, and will be reinstalled first, but that will go fairly
quickly. I did have PHP Nuke, a content management system installed as
a test in a subdirectory of SurvivalRing, with my CIVILDEFENSENOW.ORG domain
pointed towards it, but it was hacked by some juvenile moron who seems to know
the inner workings of this open source package, and who proceeded to put his
little "dirty message" on the front page. I've since removed PHP Nuke
from my list of tools to use.
With as many areas, downloadable files and documents,
and so much more, this is the time to bring the entire site forward into the
21st century with dynamic searches, automated tools, user and session management,
and a whole lot more. Stay tuned for these upgrades as they come.

SOME WONDERFUL PEOPLE Define
a need, and someone will always come to help
My thanks to a wonderful group of people who came forth last April and May,
when the laptop named "Bubba" went into a coma. I was able to replace
that laptop (which had the motherboard die) with a complete, used exact replacement
laptop, for less then the cost of the motherboard replacement with Hewlett Packard.
This allowed me to continue working through the rest of the year, and into this
spring, before I replaced the laptop with a brand new powerful desktop system.
The new computer, an HP 864N, with 2.8 gigahertz
Pentium 4 processor, 512 megs of RAM, 128 meg NVidea video system, 160 gigabyte
hard drive, DVD burner, 5 USB 2.0 slots, 2 Firewire ports, Windows XP Pro Media
Center operating system, TV video card, and 200 watt Klipsch 2.1 audio system
with a portion of this years tax refund. Total cost with an 2 year extended
warranty on this recertifed system was $914, but the deal with my wife Annie
that let me make this purchase is that I have to sell the laptop, to balance
out the rest of our bills.
NOW I have the power for full spectrum audio
and video editing, video production, and 240 gigs of storage with my external
80 gig drive plugged into a USB port. I also have some ideas for getting EVERY
BIT of digital data I have in my hands made available to you all through the
web, but that will be announced below.
For now, this upgrade gives me power and flexibility,
storage and archiving space, and hardware to do literally anything to create
content for you guys now. I've come up with a plethora of ideas to share incredible
amounts of information, and this system, and your help as you've given in the
past, and will in the future, removes ANY limits.

Ok, folks...here is an idea that a good friend of mine came up with, and which
sounds QUITE interesting...and THIS is the place to mention it. This WILL be
the second time I'm mentioning it (first time was the very bottom of SurvivalRing's
homepage, back last year), so pay attention....
Are YOU interested in having a little get together
with me...a few dozen...a few hundred...folks, in the Wild, Wild West of Central
Wyoming? Maybe later next spring, summer or early fall? Lots of things to do
in Wyoming ( hunting, fishing, camping, Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and more
), but basically a weekend ( for now ) to get together, bounce around ideas,
come up with some plans...to help ourselves, our neighbors, and our nation.
Something like what Presidents and Prime Ministers
and Generals do...right before the wars start, but without all that nasty media
hyperbole, armed guards, and sunglasses and earphone dudes.
Interested? Let me know. I'll be putting up
a page for it after the first of the year, and will be willing to do all the
backend work...if YOU want to come over and play in my backyard ( visit Wyoming,
that is). I HAVE done this kind of thing before...I produced a computer fair
in Dallas back in 1988, with over 300 attendess from around the country. *I*
think it would be a blast, and you folks would have the trip of a lifetime.
Wyoming IS that good a place to vacation. I'll be waiting. And don't worry
about Yellowstone, that kindly, old, extremely gaseous National Park a couple
hours away from me.
I *promise* that the Supervolcano underneath
it ( you know, the one that blows up every 600,000 years like clockwork, and
last blew up 640,000 years ago, and could bury the entire country under several
feet of ash with one eruption, and currently has some trails closed that only
a few months ago were LESS then 200 degrees ground temperature where you would
normally walk along the path...yeah, THAT park) will not explode and kill you
during your visit to the area, if you are brave enough to come.
Seriously, I have made MANY good friends during
the last several years, via the website, and this would be an incredible chance
for all us preparedness Geeks to have our very own SURVIVAL-CON(vention, that

This year has been one for the record books....the
wildest weather in decades with over 500 tornadoes in MAY ALONE. Extreme heat,
extreme cold, snow in July, wild fires in Arizona, hurricane season starting
with a vengeance...Watchout, Texas!
Not to mention Iraq, Syria, Niger, Iberia,
Russia, North Korea, and executive level turmoil.
The only thing expected, that has NOT happened
yet, is more terrorist activity on US soil. Knock On Wood. Stay ever alert for
this...because THAT is when it will happen...when we're NOT thinking about it.
Use these dog days of summer to MAKE that preparedness kit you have been MEANING
to for a long time, actually exist. Get the bag, get food and water, get those
tools, get maps and compass and matches and extra clothes, and windup radio
and pocket scanner and anything else YOU can use to KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON...BEFORE
SOMETHING IS GOING ON. Trying to make a kit or plans when the proverbial crap
is hitting the high speed blades of the Big Fan Of Life is just too late....do
it now.
YOU know by now, if you've been around me or
SurvivalRing by now, that having it and not needing it is infinitely better
then needing it and not having it, when it comes to tools, information, and
planning. Please, take the time now to take action.
A few of weeks ago, I got an email out of the
blue from Laurence Gonzales about a book he had just written wanting to know
if I would like to help him share it with the world. We exchanged a few emails,
and I received an advanced reading copy last week. It, in a word, is simply
THE BEST book I have EVER read on the subject of survival psychology. Read more

Laurence seems to have lived a life on the
edge, but with reasons. The stories he tells, the deep recesses of the human
brain he helps illuminate, the deeper understanding of the inner turmoil that
a life threatening situation brings...he delves deeper than I have ever seen...to

tweak that last little byte of data into the cranial mass that, in the end,
yields to the world another Survivor, and not another Victim.
I had to wait for my wife to finish this book,
as she wouldn't put it down when the mailman brought it. I started it at bedtime
last Friday, and bedtime didn't come until the last page of the book at three
AM. Yes, read it all in one sitting...it was THAT good.

do just that. I've read hundreds of books the past few years, including survival
fiction, survival fact, personal triumphes and tragedy, and yes, delved into
the very essence of human existance, physiology, philosophy, and physchology,

safe] location here in KS, based upon the many maps I've studied which reflect

have to go thru...some more than once. And it is a very "survival" oriented
story. I just hope that more folks like yourself will find something useful
to take away from SurvivalRing, OTHER than all those cool downloads. Yes,
Kansas is fairly safe...except for those pesky old twisters...which was MY main
reason for relocating to northern climes when I had the chance. Enjoy
the post office...and wish me luck. Almost got BOTH feet back in the door
now, starting another career at MY local P.O. It's a good, honest, mostly
clean job, and helps EVERY ONE of our neighbors, when we work there. Ya'll

I'm sure you get a lot of email so i'll
make this brief, my parents don't feel any need for a fallout shelter and I
couldn't disagree more, so that leaves me in a position with no funding whatsoever.
That in turn voids every fallout shelter plan I can find on the internet (utilizing
cement and cinderblocks that is). I've read about things like fruit cellars
but I doubt that specific design would withstand the over-pressure phase. so
I was wondering if you knew of anyplace where they had detailed wooden shelter
plans. Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Appz,
The Office of Civil Defense created a small
manual on making fallout shelters out of wood, which has several small plans.
The wood created the basic structure of the shelter, but you would still need
MASS to give you the PF (protection factor) that gives you the protection from
the harmful gamma rays given off by fallout. Cinder blocks, sand bags, bricks,
layers of stacks of books, or many layers of dense plywood, would be needed
to enhance the PF of a wooden shelter, and placing the shelter in a preferred
location, such as a basement, the center of the house, etc, would give more
PF to you as well. You could construct a small shelter with prefab parts, and
then store it out of the way until it was needed, when it then could be put
together quickly in its final location, and the mass material placed around
it. Be sure to plan for a couple of weeks of food and water storage in or near
this shelter, or include the mass of the food storage in the design of the shelter.
This should give you some ideas to get started with.

Hi I am a very poor guy with no money, but
in case of an emergency.. If in my basement, I cut through the cement a 2 square
foot hole, and then digged out all the dirt so I had a 8 square foot space below
under my basement, would the cement above collapse on me????????????? The Cement
is from 6 inches to about a 1 foot. Is it doable? And if so why hasn't any one
thought of it before, if its doable with no cost?Thats all I wanted
to know thanks...
Hi, there, IIIIIIIIIII...
I think most folks I know are poor these days...it's
the economy. I think you would run into more then a few problems in constructing
in the way you want to. Knocking out a hole in the cement would not be difficult,
but I am sure you would immediately have moisture and water table issues. You
don't mention anything about putting more cement, lining, wood, any kind of
floor, or anything into the hole you dig beneath the slab, but since you say "no cost", I'm assuming there won't be anything. You would have great
PF in this kind of shelter, but I think your time in THIS hole would be 99%
pure misery, laying or sitting in mud, not having clean air, and just general
lack of comfort.
You'd be magnitudes better off to simply clean
out a 5 or 6 foot square corner of the basement, put two book shelves together
to form an enclosed closet area, and put as much mass as you can on those shelves.
Stock up or make sandbags, and when the time comes, go out in your yard with
a shovel and start filling them up to stack around your basement cubicle, getting
the mass you need for maximum radiation safety. Anything you need in the shelter,
you can bring downstairs at a moments notice ( chairs, matresses, food from
the pantry, radio, etc), but plan on how you'll use it when laying out the floor
plan beforehand. This method will be about as cheap as you can get, but more
effective then no shelter at all.
4) Richard,

National Labs document "maintaining nutritional adequacy during a prolonged
food crisis" it was published in July 1979 as ornl-5352 If you could offer any
suggestions on how to find this i would be grateful. I have already been to
the ornl web site and found it on a search of their library holdings.

...is Yellow, aka ELEVATED. The Department of Homeland Security believes
there is now an ELEVATED RISK OF TERRORIST ATTACKS on US soil. So, keep an ear
on the news, have your walkman radio or tv handy, grab (MEANING PURCHASE ONE)
a police scanner from your local Radio Shack and get some channels of importance
programmed in, and KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND YOU. The FEDS are threatening
to ramp it up in the larger cities, to LEVEL ORANGE, a.k.a. as HIGH ALERT around
the holidays (July 4th, Labor Day), as well as the policital and election conventions.
The current G8 summit is very high alert right now as well.

by Iraq, the Israeli home front command has put out a brochure to the general
population with information on the threat and the needed response. The brochure

Commentary
What *I* Think We Should do....
Pay Attention
Iraq will most definitely retaliate for the bombing of Baghdad. This could include
everything from sniper and bomb attacks on our cities, to radiological "dirty
bombs," to injecting Iraqi volunteers with smallpox and then dispersing them
throughout the U.S. As Newsweek warns, "All they’d have to do is hang out
in crowds and slowly die."
Another easy target for terrorists: The US power grid, which experts say could
be shut down by terrorists armed
with nothing more than shotguns and aluminum foil. An attack on the power grid
would shut down cities and make
it impossible to even pump water to homes and offices. With the U.S. invasion
of Iraq likely in the next several
days and the U.S. military getting involved in conflicts throughout the world
-- from Afghanistan to Columbia --
we must face the fact that our way of life has changed. Quite possibly, forever.
As Vice President Cheney has said, "It's not a matter of IF terrorists will
strike America again, but WHEN."
Targets...We Have Targets...as mentioned in
the USAToday newspaper in Late May 2004...stay away from the G-8 Summit in Georgia,
and both the political conventions this year.
There has been mention of the terrorists combining
an attack with a massive natural disaster, mentioned on a few EMA oriented mailing
lists. We already know that tiny groups of less then 20 men could pull off an
attack that killed almost three thousand Americans. We fear they will use chemical,
biological, or nuclear weapons in just about ANY place they can sneak into,
at any time, in any locale. All we'll be able to do again, as a nation, is simply "respond" to the attack, instead of stopping it.
Just what could a small group, or many small
groups or cells, do that would CAUSE a natural disaster to START? Something
so huge that the live of tens of thousands of Americans hung in the balance?
Something that, using basic physics, "available" tools and hardware,
and semi-trained and practiced and "determined" individuals would
have a chance of "just maybe" pulling off, with massive amounts of
luck, breakdowns in U.S. intelligence communications, and

Make A Kit and Know How To Use It
Here are four VERY HIGH PRIORITY items you truly need to take IMMEDIATELY
to protect yourself and your family
1. Assemble an emergency, 90-day food supply for each member of your family.
Make a large portion of it PORTABLE. At least two weeks per person in
a backpack type carrier.
2. Make sure you have at least a 3-day supply of safe drinking water -- and
a way to purify more. Any good camping supply retailer will have water filters
that can guard against bacterial infections, as well as some chemical additives.
GET SOME NOW. You may have to get water out of places OTHER than the faucet.
Have a pot and fuel to boil water if you can. While terrorists can affect
reservoirs, they can't taint EVERY stream feeding them.
3. Create an emergency escape and survival plan for your family in the event
of a biological, chemical, or radiological attack. Have plans for work, school,
home, and fall back positions ( someplace EVERYONE knows about and can get to,
such as a relative who lives on the outer regions of metro areas, instead of
downtown.
4. Make sure you have plenty of cash available if you have to flee or evacuate
your city. Better yet, have good dependable transportation with plenty of fuel
and at least SOME camping supplies in case you must spend time LIVING in your
vehicle should the authorities SHUT DOWN transportation arteries.
These measures will help, but they’re just the FIRST STEP in getting prepared.

Media Wonks Come A'Calling
If you have spent time around SurvivalRing the
past couple years, you will know that I get emails occasionally FROM media wonks
asking questions, seeking interviews, wanting help finding local contacts for
stories, and more. I have been doing this for close to 7 years know, and understand
this area of human expertise ( what else? survival, of course ) quite well now,
philosophically, spiritually, economically, rationally, fictionally, catastrophically,
and any other way you can think of.
Having been into the lifestyle of self reliance
nearly all my life, I feel comfortable communicating with ANYONE on the subject,
and all variations of it. All my long time friends and acquantances from the
web will know that I speak for most when it comes to getting the TRUTH out about
survivalism when the media comes knocking...problem is, all the interviews I
have had didn't make it much into the so-called "reporters" final
stories...I don't seem to be sensational enough for them...not dressed in cammies,
toting a gun, living in a compound, and so on. Who'da thunk, huh?
So, I still get those occasional email missives
from so-called journalists trying to get that NEXT sensational "survivalist"
story published. Sorta helps that MOST of the all time best survival websites
in the world link to SurvivalRing thru the webring, and so this makes me an
instant focal point. Sigh...it's ok...I'm up to the task. This little portion
of this newsletter will give you the LATEST "MEDIA INTRUSION" into
the realm of SurvivalRing. I'll repost the current media wonk of the day's question,
and maybe a nifty answer/retort if called for, along with a place for YOU to
comment on the message below ...if ya want to. Should prove interesting.
A) FOX TV emailed, telling me about a new TV
Show pilot, called SPIN CYCLE, and their first episode was going to be about "what to do if a real catastrophe was to hit L.A."...who would do
what, who would respond, what the county plans were, and so on. They had interviewed
city councilmen, the county EMA guy, and people on the street, but were asking
for a 'survival expert', who could give details to all those who would be stuck...trapped...unable
to leave the areas, as verified by the EMA guy. Offered my services...no response...
B) BBC TV is worried about Yellowstones "near-term"
explosive capability, and want to talk to folks who live near Yellowstone ("hel-loooo
out there!") and see how worried they are to be living so close to "imminent
death". Emailed them offering my comments and interview-ability, but they
must be busy dealing with those rude french people again...no response.

WorldNetDaily ... The Phone Calls
WorldNetDaily ... Nope. Nothing from these THIEVES.
Yep, we are still waiting for the return of material loaned to WorldNetDaily
CO-FOUNDER Elizabeth Farah. It has been over over TWO and ONE HALF YEARS
now that they have had 18 books of mine, which Ms. Farah PERSONALLY borrowed
from me, for their JANUARY 2002 magazine issue of "AMERICAN DEFENSELESS".
One phone call was received from her assistant, Mary Drum, LAST YEAR saying
a call from Liz would be forthcoming, and return of the books eminent.
Ain't happened. Mary's call was over 15 months ago, and I am still waiting.
DOZENS of you sent emails and snail mail copies
of MY letter and book list to them...and it got their attention. But to
no avail. Mr. Rob Hooper got Mr. Joseph Farah's PERSONAL attention about
this "problem", but Mr. Joe apparently failed to follow through on
HIS promises as well, making WND.com a virtual "den of thieves".
It must run in the family, and apparently, all
the Farah's huffing and puffing online and in print, about the liberal agenda
of the vast left wing conspiracy to steal from the poor, and
give to democratic pork projects and buddy payoffs, has gotten to their meager
little brains, and now the Farah's see the error of their ways since moving
to the west coast. They have now joined the fracus to drain EVERY SINGLE THING
OF VALUE from those of us who have worked our butts off for DECADES, just trying
to stay afloat and able to put food on the table, and gas in our 12 year old
cars, and thrift store clothes on our little ones...while they suffer now one
wit.
Early this spring, I made a series of phone
calls to both the Oregon and Virginia offices of WORLD NET DAILY, including
the HOME of the FARAH's in Oregon, leaving messages for Ms. Farah, her assistant
Mary Drum, and anybody else, TO CALL ME BACK. Again, nothing. I threatened legal
action, if no response. Still, nothing.
What do we do next? I think another round
of letters, phone calls, emails, and contact of OTHER NEWS MEDIA (conservative
and otherwise) to get their attention EVEN MORE. I want my books
back...because they are for YOU GUYS AND GALS out there. What Liz did,
literally amounts to WIRE FRAUD, which the last time *I* checked, was a FELONY.
She used the phone lines and email, to make verbal promises, committments, and
a verbal contract with me, and literally has stolen, what are to me priceless,
materials that I have NOT been able to replace any other way.
Does ANYONE out there want to help me take LEGAL
ACTION, against this organization? Anyone reading this a practicing lawyer,
who would like to get some free advertising by helping sue a VERY well known
media organization, who CLAIMS, on one hand, to be helping the little guy, while
in the other RIPS THEM OFF FOR PERSONAL CORPORATE PROFIT? I do not see how ANYONE
in the liberal media world, would NOT want to bring down WND.com a few notches...
All I want is justice, the return of my books,
and repayment for 2.5 years of wasted time, phone calls, and a statement of
APOLOGY from them. Until that happens, I stand by EVERY WORD I have written
above.

First, thanks to all of you last year who helped revive "Bubba", the
sick Laptop, last spring. You kept me going and working for most of last year.
This past March, thanks to keeping all my receipts last year, and using TAXACT
software for the third year in a row, I was able to use a small portion of my
refund to get an UP TO DATE, powerful computer hardware, with the latest tools
and operating system.
I moved from the laptop mode, to a powerful
desktop setup, which gives me incredible amounts of storage capacity, video
and audio power, processing speed, and software upgradability. The new system
is an HP 864N, with 2.8 gigahertz Pentium 4 processor, 512 meg of RAM, 160 gigabyte
hard drive, a 16x DVD+R/48x CD ROM burner, five USB 2.0 ports, two 1384 Firewire
video ports, built in TV Card/Video input, a Klipsch 2.1 stereo speaker system
with 200 watt amplifier, 6-in-1 media reader port for all those memory stick
devices, and Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition.
All for the discounted price of $749 through
TigerDirect.com, where I've bought most of my hardware the last few years. With
my 128 megabyte LEXAR media USB pendrive, I can work on web pages, writing,
graphics, and just about anything, on ANY computer, and bring it back home to
MAX (the new computer's name) to store and finish on. Talk about portability...someday
I'll be able to afford a PALM "E", and REALLY have a pocket sized
computer, but until then, the pen drive will suffice to give me portability.
