SurvivalRing - In The News....

This portion of SurvivalRing is for letting you, the ring visitor and/or
member, know what is happening with SurvivalRing regarding ANY media coverage,
for any reason. It is interesting that something as simple as a webring devoted
to normal everyday people wanting to help OTHER people just like them prepare
for future difficulties would draw the attention of ANY media, especially
BIG media. What do I mean by big media? Time magazine, Life magazine, ABC/NBC/FOX
news affiliates, FOX Files weekly news magazine, OVERSEAS news magazines....these
and more.
WHY are we drawing attention, WITHOUT hyping ourselves in any way, shape,
or form, other than word of mouth? Well, Y2k is very obviously a scary
proposition to MUCH of the civilized world, including ALL levels of the U.S.
community, from regular citizenry, to municipal levels in small and large
cities, to state levels in all areas, to the Federal government to the point
of SPECIAL hearings in the house and senate...even to the military...now
doing ALL kinds of practice movements, programs, projects, and behind the
scenes doomsday scenario escapades scaring the bejeezus of small towns and
cities across the entire country, from Kingsville, Texas to Anniston Alabama
to Pittsburgh, Pensylvania. ALL this attention to the simple three digit
sequence of Y-two-Kay.
Y2k WILL have negative impact around the entire world. TO what degree, NO
MAN KNOWS. Some level of planning and work BEFORE it hits is required to
try to MITIGATE the possible effects that can hurt or affect so many. The
search for information, products, news, communities, help, friendship, and
comradery are what is bringing a LOT of people across this webring, thru
many of the member sites.
Just this moment as I was typing this on a sunday morning at 10:16 am, I
heard a building low pitched drone outside. It was so persistant, I thought
a stranger was coming up our long driveway and had stopped halfway up. I
got up and went outside to take a look from a clear perspective off the back
porch, and the moment I opened the door, I knew it wasn't a car. The sound
came from a flight of 5 black BlackHawk helicopters, on some sortie, flying
from northwest to southeast, shadowing Interstate 20/59 between Birmingham
and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I heard them for a good 45 seconds before I saw
the first one behind the trees a few miles south of my house, then one by
one they appeared past the last tree in row in a clearing from my home's
hilltop perspective. What were they doing? Some humanitarian training exercise?
Transporting generals from Annistan to Montgomery? Moving Kosovoan refugees
from New Jersey to New Orleans for the summer? Hauling trash to the dump?
I don't know, and probably never will.
BUT the first thing I think of is training....training with some specific
goal or end game in site. LAST fall, in a well publicized event, the MARINES
held some URBAN TRAINING EXERCISES in the Birmingham, Alabama area. They
used SEVERAL MARINE HELICOPTERS flying all over the metroplex, including
the small suburb I deliver mail in. Two silver finish Chinooks, two COBRA
GUNSHIPS, and a few others flew over the area, sometimes in wide sweeping
turns, doing whatever they were doing for most of the day. The newspaper
covered it, as did radio, and local tv news. Why here? and why now? And from
what *I'VE* heard/seen/read/ the past few months, most all military training
now is dealing with SOME aspect that may pop up in a Y2k scenario. I can
NOT be the only person who sees these things building up. I KNOW I am not
only one who can put small pieces of the y2k puzzle together from the scraps
found in magazines, newpaper, tv, talk radio, online, and IN PERSON. I am
just a simple man, a husband and father, a mailman for a small town. I somehow
stumbled into this mix of Y2k hysteria thru MY INTEREST in saving peoples
lives in severe storms, such as tornadoes and hurricanes, both of which I've
had MORE then enough personal relationships with.
Here's an example. A GOOD friend of mine, who hit the big time regarding
y2k, even getting his expert experience in an area mentioned on the king
of y2k's web world, GARY NORTH'S website, sent out the latest of his updates
on his read of the situation, the areas of concern, and the obvious BEHIND
THE SCENES preparedness of (I will leave them unnamed at this point because
I want to see what occurs) *A GOVERNMENT ENTITY*. This *ENTITY* had a website
with what was a VERY precise, VERY in depth, and VERY disturbing picture
of the ENTIRE Y2K situation...from rampup to midplay to endgame. In the email
missive from my friend, he gave the website address. I immediately viewed
it THEN. Yes, it was there, and yes, it was disturbing. An attempt an hour
later to read more in depth after answering my email for the day produced
ZILCH. The page was gone, the directory was gone...hell, the domain name
*.*.*.MIL was NOT FOUND. No record, error 404, does not exist.
I thought what the hell? Another email came, this one referencing the same
page, then in midmessage, HE was going to paste a piece of text and HE HAD
THE SAME PROBLEM. IT HAD VANISHED. Another recipient of the message in question
who had gone to THAT original site, had made a duplicate EXACTLY of that
page. He had placed it in a site quickly set up on GEOCITIES. My friend,
in the message stopped mid-message by the profound obvious thought of *INNER
WORKINGS SOMEWHERE* doing what I will only classify as EVIL, by hiding what
seems to be the truth FROM the people who provide the SWEAT and BLOOD money
for them to protect us, sent a request out to all recipients of the first
message, asking if anyone had saved the *MISSING* page. He was made aware
of the GEOCITIES BACKUP, and sent out the post to all to GET IT WHILE ITS
HOT. Well, most of us DID, who could.
Guess what? In two hours time, the GEOCITIES copy of the *.*.*.MIL page VANISHED
YET AGAIN.
There are some very disturbing forces going on here. Way too fast, way too
deep, and way too powerful to just DISMISS as flukes, or coincidence, or
accident, or whatever. Information is being SUPRESSED. Information that could
HELP AMERICANS PREPARE FOR WHAT **IS** KNOWN. INFORMATION THAT COULD SAVE
LIVES.
You tell me....what is going on behind our backs? Why are the PEOPLE IN POWER
covering their OWN FAT BUTTOCKS, while we everday people twist and bend in
the WINDS OF FEAR?
I am NOW officially disturbed by the trend as it has PERSONALLY APPEARED
to me this past 14 hours. I will NOW work MUCH harder spreading the word
and news I find. I will ALSO make DANG SURE that a site of obvious worth
gets SAVED for future reference....with backups. (I used to be a computer
operations manager for a large company in Dallas...backups were a DAILY and
IMPORTANT part of my schedule...and ever more now).
Any future news will appear in this space, with links to backed up items
as I create them.

OLD NEWS--Why did I CREATE the SurvivalRing
webring?
Below is an excerpt from an email I wrote in reply to a writer from
TIME Magazine last week, the first week of December 1998, who emailed asking
my help in learning more about how people are preparing for Y2k, ESPECIALLY
folks that call themselves 'Survivalist's'. While the full reply to
her came to just over 4 pages printed out (sheesh!), the portion below
gives MY personal thoughts regarding survival, survivalists, and being prepared.
I think you will see that I do not consider myself the kind of Survivalist
that is so often referred to by the media in the news, network dramas,
or magazine articles...meaning the camo wearing, eternally gun toting,
hardcore camping, living off the land if I HAVE to, holier than thou, right
wing extremist, bully. I am just a normal man, a nobody
really, an everyday joe, working 5 to 6 days a week, supporting
BY MYSELF my wife and three kids, and fixing things that break around the
house or the car when needed ,and finding time at a moments notice to help
coworkers, friends, strangers, and customers in whatever way I can. I
suspect that most visitors, and most of the webring members are just the
same. Read on, and see if you agree with what
I have to say, to her, to TIME Magazine, to the world at large, and
to YOU, my friends.
"....This is the whole, quite simple, reason I created the SurvivalRing webring
over a year ago, now with over 210 sites including SEVERAL international
websites. Yes, it does have sites that so-called crusaders such as the Southern
Poverty Law Center, or the Militia Watchdog website, list. .
But if you spend time visiting every site in the MY webring, you will NOT
find a single one that espouses hate, anarchy, revenge, or racial hatred.
PERIOD. I will not allow it, and I will remove any site in the blink
of an eye that might change or modify their site to follow these, or similar,
themes. I am the OWNER of the ring, and I have total power to allow (or not)
any site, or make (or destroy) the webring into anything I choose.
I take this wonderful opportunity VERY SERIOUSLY, to help educate people
all over the world by letting sites join the webring that have useful, helpful
material, commentary, historical info, or products or books that can be used
to increase one's readiness for lifes troubles. There is an eclectic mix
of personal, commercial, and product sites that anyone might learn some tidbit
that might make their life easier, more fun, or much safer.
Regarding your comment "Not sure if you consider yourself a survivalist per
se"....well, as Klinton would put it (spelling intentional!), "it depends
on your definition of survivalist". The whole point of human existance, even
unto this day, is to JUST SURVIVE all the trials and tribulations that this
little floating ball of dirt, mud, and rocks can throw at us. Learning how
to do it in any and all ways possible, in the worst or most improbable
situations, does NOT a survivalist make. Neither does just owning a gun and
waiting for Armageddon or Martial Law or The Second Coming. Or just being
a Stark Raving Lunatic (SRL), complaining about black helicopters and alien
implants. Every branch of our military teaches in every aspect of every job,
how to survive in combat. We then throw these warriors out to the bad guys
to see how well they learned their job. Our schools teach us (or should)
how to survive in the business world. Our politicians strive to "survive"
all the slings and arrows that public work can throw at them. Our poor and
sick and criminal in this country just try to "survive" one more hour, or
one more day, or....
Me? I just want to be able to support my wife and three kids, bring home
a paycheck, and be ready the NEXT time an F5 tornado materializes west of
my home, and starts moving east, just like the May 8th tornado that killed
and injured so many (including members of my family and church) here in the
Birmingham area. Or the next time an Opal-like hurricane moves up from the
gulf and blows down a hundred foot tree that DOES fall on my house, instead
of missing it by inches in 1995. Or maybe I can be ready again, as I was
almost 2 years ago now, the next time a drunk driver broadsides a suburban,
causing it to spin and roll over twice, with an elderly lady just going to
deliver christmas presents to her grandkids, hanging from her seatbelt (thank
god), stopping just feet from me as I delivered my mail on my route. I
HAVE to be ready....as we ALL should. So I learn, study, and practice.....AS
WE ALL SHOULD.
I have friends who are firemen and policemen and politicians and pharmacists
and viet nam vets and .... many other things. We all want a better place
and a better life. It starts with US, and it ends with us. It's called Life.
We like to play this game, and win. Nobody HAS to get hurt in our world....but
they do, and we help them however we can to get better, and play safer. If
THAT makes a survivalist, then what 's wrong with being one?...."

and visitors to these pages about things I see hovering on the horizon, or
even staring us ALL in the face, has made me realize that yes, there
IS more that I can do. AND I will use the above mentioned "WATCHDOG"
theme, but this time ONLY for GOOD. What I just placed above will be
the first entry into the SurvivalRing

goal of this new area will be to provide assistance or counsel to anyone
who is getting taken advantage of by businesses selling to the preparedness
industry, false advertising, or outright theft or abuse by individuals,
