Know Thine Enemy..Understanding REAL Threats
By Richard A. Fleetwood - May 2001
How many ways are there to get hurt, much less lose your life, in this day and age? Accidents, natural disasters, manmade misdeeds, and even terrorist activity are the threat of the day. Not one afternoon newscast goes by without someone dying somewhere, unnaturally, and in a most newsworthy way.
Reality television, such as Survivor, The Mole, Boot Camp, Big Brother, and game shows such as The Weakest Link and Lord knows what else, dull the senses everyday, and make money hand over fist for sponsors climbing over each other to take advantage of highly rated broadcasts. Nearly all of these shows make much of the fact that human emotion and human frailty are things that can be taken advantage of for other-than-good gains. The winners of these shows get a few bucks for their outlasting, outguessing, outwitting their opponents, and the viewer gets to live vicariously through their passage thru the show. The losers suffer indignity after indignity, and the producers get ALL THAT MONEY from the shows sponsers. One thing is lacking in these highly rated shows about being the last one standing. That is the fact that you get much farther by in life and spirit by working for the good of ALL.
Watching shows made strictly for entertainment purposes, rather than REAL education, accomplishes its goal...the transfer of hard earned money from one hand to another. However, the REAL things people should worry about and take time to learn more about are the things that can and do threaten real lives, real families, and real neighborhoods. I am not a doom and gloomer, also called a DOOMER these days, but having lived the life I have and worked the real jobs I've worked, and traveled the real highways of America as I have the past many months, there ARE threats that exist in ALL areas of life.
This page is to help YOU look around YOUR place of comfort and decide what things YOU might have to worry about, and therefore what YOU can do to mitigate, or lessen, the effects of such things actually coming to your front door.
YOU must decide what to do with your time, your talents, and your future, and making the right choice at the right time will ALWAYS have the best long term outcome. Letting outside influences control your destiny is how most people wind up down the wrong path and miserable in their later years. Here are some ideas to help you avoid that first, or next, "wrong" path.
