The A.L.E.R.T.S. List By Richard A. Fleetwood - May 2001 The MANY LISTS BELOW are created for those who would like to know what is going on around them, by having timely and interesting news articles and background reports from the field, on topics of interest in the PREPAREDNESS and MITIGATION world. Being an "infomaniac", I subscribe to dozens of email lists, run search bots on several news wires on many key topics, and get forwarded to me LOTS of interesting articles EVERYDAY that let me learn something new everyday, that will help me know what to watch out for the future. From FEMA updates, to the United States Fire Administration, to Scan This News (personal privacy issues), to Hazard Mitigation, to Storm Warning centers, Natural Hazard Research, to "from the field reports" from close friends, and so much more. Not every email from every list and every source is worthwhile, and not every list has "real" news or timely subjects....but there are occasionaly those "nuggets" of data so valuable they MUST be shared with as wide an audience as possible. The SINGLE goal and mission of THIS list is to have a single place where you can get, without any work on your part, the best and most interesting news on topics that mean the most to you.....that of BEING PREPARED. It is a changing world we all live in right now, and while there are people working hard to make it a little worse each day, there are many more people working to make it BETTER. My simple thoughts on "being prepared"? A.L.E.R.T. (Always Learn Every Rotten Thing) by running it thru the old brain box and seeing what gets sifted out as NEW and worthwhile info. Yes, it can get hectic, and sometimes downright overpowering...but with a family that depends on MY knowing what we may need to work around, or thru, in the future, I get comfort and confidence knowing my family will be able to depend om me to safely see them thru. Other items to be sent thru this list? Government reports, threat assessments from different sources, personal reports on things we should all be weary of, things that might affect our rights, now AND in the future, Government and power abuse, self-reliance or self sufficiency issues, and more. It will NOT be a SPAM list, and while any discussion is fine on any subject, it is not required. BEWARE! Somedays you may get 1 or 2 emails.....somedays 10 or more...depends all on what the daily email in box brings my way. If you don't like to read much, then consider another source or list to join....there are thousands out there.
